Fall Season Kickoff | Bay City Fall League
WestBay Ospreys Community,
What an incredible way to launch the 2025 fall season! This past weekend, over 75 players across eight teams competed in the Bay City League. Here are some highlights from an action-packed opening weekend:
⸻
3rd/4th Grade (0–2)
Most of these players are just beginning their club journey, making every practice and game a valuable step in their development. Our focus is on growth, effort, and learning—progress, not perfection. The experience they’re gaining now will pay dividends as the season unfolds.
⸻
5th Grade Blue (0–2)
This group showed exciting flashes of potential, playing excellent first halves in both games. While their defensive intensity slipped late, the boys stayed engaged and fought hard. With added defensive work—and a boost from new coaches Country and Brey—we’re expecting a quick turnaround.
⸻
5th Grade Black (1–1)
Saturday featured some of the most connected basketball this team has played. They earned a strong win in their opener and battled down to the wire in their second game, falling just short. Win or lose, their competitive spirit embodied the WBO way.
⸻
6th Grade Blue (2–0)
Arguably the team of the weekend! Both games were sealed with dramatic, last-second three-pointers—Savir Rangan hit the game-winner in the opener, and Sam Montgomery followed suit in the second. Every player dreams of those moments, and these boys delivered in style.
⸻
6th Grade Black (1–1)
Short-handed and drawing help from Blue, this squad showed grit. In Game 1, they clawed back from behind with strong offense, only to see a last-second coaching mistake tip the balance. They bounced back with a resilient Game 2 victory, proving their ceiling is high.
⸻
7th/8th Grade (0–2)
A brand-new group playing together for the first time—with several 7th graders playing up—faced challenges against older, seasoned opponents. While the results weren’t there, the foundation is being laid. As they learn to play together, growth and chemistry will come.
⸻
16U (1–1)
The season opened with a big change: welcoming new Head Coach Donovan Blythe (“Coach D”), a three-time California state champion (two girls, one boys). His pedigree and focus on skill development are already paying off, with players responding positively. Their sights are set on making their high school rosters, and with Coach D’s guidance, they’re on track.
⸻
17U (2–0)
Coach Ben’s squad impressed with two quality wins, including a thrilling comeback from a 13-point deficit. Senior Ethan Zhou provided steady leadership, while sophomore Tres Onyejekwe and junior Kai Mawakana shined in key moments. If they keep this pace, this team will be one to watch heading into the high school season.

Looking Ahead
As a program, we embrace both the highs and the lows. Our mission remains constant: develop and compete. Wins and losses will come, but the true measure of success is preparing each athlete for the challenges ahead.
Here’s to another exciting week of basketball—
