WESTBAY OSPREYS WEEKEND RECAP

Date: May 17-18

OVERALL WEEKEND SUMMARY

The Ospreys wrapped up another exciting tournament weekend filled with resilience, growth, and standout performances across all levels. Several teams earned hard-fought victories, with two squads—6th/7th and 15U—finishing with only one or zero losses. The 15U team closed out their spring season with their third straight championship, a remarkable achievement. Across all grade levels, we saw meaningful player development, stronger execution against defensive pressure, and a consistent display of team-first basketball. From clutch three-pointers to overtime grit, this weekend was full of memorable moments that show just how far our players have come.

See below for full team summaries:

4TH BLACK (2–1)

The team demonstrated excellent teamwork in their first game, earning a well-deserved victory. It was encouraging to see everyone contribute and enjoy equal playing time. Their second game, played early Sunday, saw them take a halftime lead. Despite a strong comeback effort after the defense faltered, they narrowly missed the win. They finished the weekend strong with a fantastic win in their third game, playing with enthusiasm and securing a 2–1 record. Overall, a performance to be very proud of!

4TH BLUE (1–2)

The first game showcased significant improvement against a team that previously beat them by a large margin. This time, they closed the gap considerably. Rebounding and breaking the press—areas they struggled with last tournament—were handled much better, and they fought hard until the end. While the second game was a loss, there were still positive moments. The third game resulted in a decisive victory—achieved with only five players—demonstrating clear progress for 4th Blue.

5TH BLACK (1–2)

Stepping up to play in the 6th-grade Division 2, the 5th-grade Black showed remarkable resilience. Despite being the smaller team, they nearly won their first game—scoring in the final seconds and forcing a key turnover—only to see their opponents win with 7 seconds left. Their second game was a tough loss against a larger team. But they bounced back Sunday with a hard-fought overtime victory, highlighted by great full-court defense. Best of luck to them in Reno!

5TH BLUE (1–2)

The team had a challenging Saturday, dropping both games. The first was a tough scoring effort, and the second became even harder after Sam’s elbow injury, leaving only five players to face heavy defensive pressure. Will and Eric worked hard to keep the team in the game, and Gabe gave valuable minutes. On Sunday, the squad showed incredible spirit, rallying from a halftime deficit to earn a victory—a true testament to their growth.

6TH/7TH (2–1)

A strong weekend start with a 4-point win featured big contributions across the roster. Howan’s clutch three-pointer and standout efforts from Dario, Nickan, Sachin, Neel, and Conner helped set the tone. Sunday’s first game continued the momentum with another 4-point victory. Their final game was tougher due to a disruptive 2–3 trap that led to turnovers, but they showed resilience, closing the gap before falling short. A fantastic weekend that built positive momentum.

8TH BLUE (2–1)

The team opened with an exciting win and followed with a hard-fought 10-point loss against a short-handed but determined opponent. They finished the weekend strong with a third-game victory. Xander delivered an exceptional performance, especially when matched against a much larger player. Despite season-long player availability challenges, this group’s development was clear. Best of luck to the Class of ’29 as they move on to high school!

15U (3–0)

Congratulations on an undefeated weekend and your third straight tournament championship! Your consistent ability to break zone defenses and execute under pressure is a testament to your high basketball IQ. Cole’s leadership in clutch moments was key, while Robbie and Cam anchored the defense. Rex and Trenton Webb (Tournament MVP) provided dynamic scoring, leading to a dominant run. This group is special—and ready for JV and Varsity success. Congrats to the Class of ’27 and ’28!
